Peer Support Program

The Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Department is an essential part of the Sirius College ‘Experience’ and has been since the foundation of Sirius College. It is really what makes Sirius College unique.

In Pastoral Care, besides our students’ education and academic excellence, we also put a lot of effort into catering for their physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs. We aim to teach and represent some of these important common and universal values such as compassion, empathy, tolerance and honesty.

We would like our students to be well-rounded global citizens who are motivated to make a positive contribution to their communities by being actively involved in school and wider community services.

As part of Pastoral Care, most recently, our campus has adopted a special focus on a Peer Support Program where students in Year 7 will be paired with Year 10 Peer Leaders who are then responsible for aiding and guiding their younger peers.

We believe that this provides a solution to many personal, social and emotional concerns that students of varying year levels may experience. The Peer Support Program will also involve an element of social and emotional learning to provide you with valuable life skills.

In these mentoring sessions the Peer Leaders and Year 7 students develop a strong bond through academic, social and extracurricular programs such as individual study sessions, collective picnics and purposeful excursions. The mentors are provided with extensive training and development opportunities delivered by professionals in their respective field.

The program will run every Monday after school between 3:30 and 5pm.
